Sick Fish Update - Monday, December 18, 2006
After 48 hours at 84 degrees, the large sick Koi is: no longer keeping his right gill cover clamped shut, is breathing much slower and has become very energetic, feisty and stubborn. He is eating tiny amounts of tofu, fresh hand split peas and mashed bits of shrimp. I would like to feed him more as he is constantly attempting to eat everything in the tank edible or not, however maintaining near undetectable ammonia levels in such a small tank has been quite an endeavour and does not permit me feeding him as much as he would like.
Sick Fish Update - Wednesday, December 13, 2006
The one large koi that is still sick has been moved to a heated tank.
Sick Fish Update - Thursday, October 26, 2006
The smaller of the two sick koi showed dramatic improvement within 24 hours of first injection. (Respiratory rate near normal. Much harder to catch for second injection.) No noticeable signs of improvement in larger koi. However, currently less then half way through prescribed antibiotic injections.
Diagnosis: Bacterial Gill Disease - Wednesday, October 18, 2006

Two of the five fish have been diagnosed (*through process of elimination) with having bacterial gill disease. Attempting to obtain antibiotics. Federal law makes this unreasonably difficult; requiring prescription from a licensed DVM who has seen the fish. not a problem in and of it self, however it appears that less then one percent of DVM's will treat or even see a fish.

*Bacterial Gill Disease not confirmed through culture.

Fish Still Sick - Sunday, October 08, 2006
Doing salt bath treatments to buy time until a biopsy can be done and a specific treatment prescribed. Water may be cloudy due to me chasing fish around the pond. The camera will be offline every once in a while when I'm in the pond trying to catch a fish.
